Getting Started
1.) Create a folder inside your documents called "12DI Your Name" or "13DI Your name".
2.) From now on all project documentation will need to be inside this folder
3.) Download the following "Project Proposal" Document into the base of your folder

Choosing your project
Choosing your project will be a difficult task, before you select it you need to be able to meet the following specifications:
1.) Is needs to be a digital outcome or have a digital component.
(3D Modelling, programming, electronics with programming, digital media)
2.) It needs to be small in scope.
3.) It needs to have enough complexity to meet the standards
4.) It needs to be able to create up to 14 credits worth of NCEA credits.
5.) You need to have the skills or be able to learn the skills required to develop the outcome.
6.) You need to be motivated to learn the skills required
7.) Your teacher needs to sign off on the project
Fill in the following document and send it to your teacher for sign off:

Digital Components
You must have a digital component in order for your project to be able to be created.
You will need to list the tools you will be using for this project
This could be but is not limited to:

Scope
Star Dew Valley is a widely complex game
|
The maker of star dew valley dedicated 4 years of his life to making the game
You have roughly 30 weeks along side other commitments. You are not going to create star dew valley. You might however make a barren game like on the right. Keep your scope small. If you were wanting to make a farming sim then make a mini game where you pick up rocks. |
Complexity and standard selection
In order to meet create your project you will need to pick some standards that make up to 14 credits. Be warned each comes with their own level on complexity.
Please Note: Other standards including digital inquiry, electronics, networking, databases are also available. Please negotiate this with your teacher.

Compulsory Standards
Develop an OutcomeCredits: 6
Description: This is our main assessment in which you will use project management tools alongside iterative development techniques in order to create your outcome. Complexity: Two of each of these Yr12:
Yr13:
|
External Reflect on an OutcomeCredits:3
Description: You will need to sit an exam talking about your project that you created. Complexity: Good Literacy skills and the ability to reflect on your project. |
Optional Assessments
Assessments listed in Red cannot be selected if you are also doing Digital Technology
Outcome DesignCredits: 3
Description: research games similar to yours and apply conventions/ user experience principles to create a design
Complexity: High Literacy skills, your project will need to be able to apply user experience methods. |
ProgrammingCredits: 6
Description: This is the programming assessment that assesses your ability to program your outcome. Complexity: 2 loops 2 if statements variables of 2 types input and output. and two of the following: Yr 12:
Yr13:
|
Media OutcomeCredits: 4
Description: This assessment looks at advanced/complex tools in media that you used to create your outcome. Complexity: Two of these: Yr 12:
|
External Comp SciCredits: 3
Description: This will be an assessment researching a computer science concept. Possible contexts:
|
ElectronicsCredits: 6
Description: Using a combination of programming and electronics develop an electronics outcome. Complexity: Yr12: Two of These ● using embedded software ● subsystem level design ● remote control ● advanced printed circuit board (PCB) development ● data storage (EEPROM) ● analogue to digital conversion (ADC). Yr13: Two of these ● implementing communication protocols e.g. i2C, serial communications ● wireless transfer of information ● feedback control ● implementing software flags and interrupts ● CAD design, 3D printing, CNC, PCB making ● filtering, noise and EMI suppression. |
Skills
The Skills that you have and need to learn will also shape the scope of your project. If you are highly skilled you can create a bigger project. If not keep to tutorial level outcomes.
What skills do you already have that will help?
e.g. Skills that I know:
Drawing in illustrator and Pixel Art Moving left and right in Gadot Collision detection and storing variables. |
What skills do you need to learn?
Try to be as specific as possible about the skills you need to learn. How long is it going to take to learn these skills.
E.g These are the skills I need to learn to create a platformer game: - Character Jumping - 2 lessons - Level Scrolling - 2 lessons - Animation frames 3 lessons Total 2 weeks. |
Final Statement - Motivation
From here you have to make a commitment to completing your project.
You will create your own timeline, and if you miss assessment dates on your timeline, you will not get an achieved grade.
Keep in mind we only get 32 weeks.
Mr Sutherland also needs to sign off on your proposal.
Be warned you may have your project rejected and have to make changes.
