Create a design with user experience in mind

AS91901 - Apply user experience methodologies to develop a design for a digital

technologies outcome

Time Given: 5 Weeks

Standard: AS91901
Version: 1
Level: 3
Credits: 3
Marking Schedule: Marking Schedule

Brief

User Experience.

What is User Experience? How can we improve it?

Are there a set of guidelines to improve the user experience?

Maybe these are called methodologies.

You have something you want to create. We need a design for that thing.

Can you apply UEM (user experience methodologies) to create your design?

Grades

Achieved
  • explaining the purpose of the digital technologies outcome and the requirements of the end users
  • investigating relevant user experience methodologies
  • applying user experience methodologies to generate a range of design ideas
  • explaining the appropriateness of a chosen design
  • modelling and testing the design idea
  • explaining relevant implications.
Merit
  • effectively using data gained from modelling and user testing to improve the design
  • evaluating how user experience methodologies were used in developing the chosen design
  • evaluating how the chosen design addresses relevant implications.
Excellence
  • justifying the choice of user experience methodologies used to develop the chosen design
  • justifying that the chosen design is suitable for the purpose and end users justifying how the chosen design might be further developed in the future.

Pre-Planning

Download the documentation template

1.) Explain the big idea. What are you wanting to create?
2.) Explain the purpose of the outcome.
"Explaining the purpose of the outcome involves explaining the reason why the outcome was pursued or desired in the first place. It delves into the intentions or goals behind the outcome "
3.) Explaining the requirements of the end users.
E.g. if you were making a train safety animation for all ages, a requirement might be making it cartoony, making points quite clear.
4.) Fill out relevant implications
5.) Investigate UEM's used in the genre you are designing a concept for.

6.) After investigating list some UEM's you will be adhering to.
7.) Create 3 design mockups then choose one.
8.) Justify why you choose that design
9.) Get feedback then update the design twice.
10.) produce a final design.
11.) Answer the reflection questions.

UEM's

UEM Definition:

A User Experience Methodology (UEM) is a structured approach to designing digital solutions that prioritize the needs, behaviors, and satisfaction of the end-user. It involves researching user needs, creating prototypes, testing with users, and refining the product to enhance usability and enjoyment.

In this section you will need to at least research 3 different UEM's

Design Mockups

Create at least 3 mock ups

Experiment with the different UEM approaches

Then select one of the mock ups as one of your designs

Explain why your decision was appropriate.

For Merit: Get feedback and update your design.

For Excellence justify why your design addresses end user considerations
