Advanced Processes

Introduction

In order to pass this assessment you have to have an example of using three advanced processes or project management and version control tools.

NZQA lists them as the following:
● saving backup copies with a logical file naming system
● using collaboration tools
● using simple version control software applications
● using tools or systems to plan tasks and milestones
● adjusting key actions and tasks where appropriate

Collecting Evidence

You will need to collect evidence of you using project management tools.

My recommendation is to take screenshots of before, during and after.

This looks like the picture on the right.

Saving backup copies with a logical file naming system

If you are picking this as an advanced project management tool then you need to ensure that you have appropriate naming conventions for each of your files.

Often if you are first working on a file I would call the first instance
Flappy bird v0.1
Then if you make a change
Flappy bird v0.2 or even v0.14 if you are halfway making changes.

Save each edition as sometimes you need to go back a step and it is helpful having previous editions.

My strong recommendation is to use GitHub, this will take care of your backups for you.

Using Collaboration tools

You may or may not collaborate with another for your project.

If you do I would recommend the following two collaboration tools.

Github
Trello - Scrum board

Github allow two people to work on the same files without interfering too much with one another.

Trello allows the learners to assign jobs to one another and mark them off.
We call this Kanban or Scrum. It is a part of agile development

Version Control

Github.... Use Github as software to ensure your project is version controlled.

Planning tasks and milestones

In order to properly plan  tasks and milestones we would recommend two main pieces of software.

Trello with Scrum
Or a Gantt Chart

Thankfully you have all been forced to use it anyway.

Adjusting key tasks and actions where appropriate

This is a rather simple one, but if doing it you would need to provide evidence.

If you have adjusted your Gantt chart mid project or your Trello board for its tasks please provide evidence
